The Truth About Us is Beautiful?
Part of the Year A, Epiphany series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Much of religion seems to be focused upon the achievement of good moral behavior. Motivation is attempted by the stressing of the commandments of God. The model we see in Jesus comes at behavior from a whole different angle - by giving us a new identity. As we embrace our new identity as God's beloved sons and daughters our behavior begins to fall in line. God's love is not based upon our good performance but upon a relationship. In God we discover the gift of love that all of our efforts could never achieve.
